Brampton Garbage Collection Schedule: How to Find Your Pickup Day

Your Brampton garbage collection schedule depends on your street, and Peel Region publishes it in an online collection calendar you can look up by address. Most Brampton homes get garbage picked up every other week and organics (green bin) every week, with bins at the curb by 7 a.m.

Garbage pickup is a regional service, which is one reason your bill has a Peel Region line. Our guide to how your Brampton property tax bill works breaks down the City, Region and education portions.

How do I find my Brampton garbage collection schedule?

Brampton residents find their garbage day by entering their home address in Peel Region’s online collection calendar. The calendar shows your garbage, organics, recycling and yard waste dates, plus any special collection dates. You can also sign up there for free reminders by email, text message or phone call.

Steps:

  1. Open the Peel Region collection calendar.
  2. Enter your street address.
  3. Check which week is a garbage week, then sign up for reminders so you don’t have to remember.

The calendar also lists special collection dates, so check it before a long weekend. Our Thanksgiving what’s open guide is a good example of how many City services shift on a holiday.

What day is garbage day in Brampton?

Brampton has no single garbage day for the whole city, so there is no one Brampton garbage collection schedule to memorize. Each address has its own collection day and its own garbage week, so your neighbour across a main road may be on a different schedule. Peel Region says garbage is collected every other week for most households, and organics every week.

If your home uses bags instead of a grey garbage bin, the pattern is the same: organics one week, then garbage and organics the next.

Setting out your bins: times and rules

Peel Region’s rules for Brampton bins are short: bins out by 7 a.m., back in by 8 p.m., lids closed and a little space around each one.

Brampton garbage collection schedule times: bins out by 7 a.m. and back in by 8 p.m.
RuleWhat Peel Region says
Put bins outBy 7 a.m. on collection day
Take bins inBy 8 p.m. on collection day
SpacingAbout an arm’s length apart, at least 1 m (3 ft) around your garbage bin
DirectionFront of the bin to the street, handles toward your house
Organics binLid locked, with the lock in the vertical position
WinterSet bins 1 m (3 ft) back from the road or curb, never on a snowbank

If your bins are still full at 8 p.m., Peel Region asks you to report waste not picked up.

What goes in each bin

Garbage (grey bin): Garbage bins come in three sizes: small (120 L, about 1 to 2 bags), medium (240 L, about 3 to 4 bags) and large (360 L, about 4 to 5 bags). Property owners can change their bin size for a fee.

Organics (green bin): Every home with bin collection uses the same 100 L green bin. Food scraps, meat, fish and bones go here, not in the garbage. Peel Region says the organics program is mandatory.

Recycling (blue bin): Since January 1, 2026, Circular Materials runs recycling in Brampton under Ontario’s producer responsibility rules, with GFL as the collection contractor. You keep the same blue bin and the same schedule. Missed recycling goes to GFL, not Peel Region: call 1-877-268-4351 or use the link on Peel Region’s recycling page.

Peel Region’s waste sorter lets you search any item to see which bin it belongs in.

Extra garbage, tags and bulky items

Extra garbage that won’t fit in your bin needs a black plastic bag and a Peel Region garbage tag. Tags cost $3 each and only come in sheets of 5 ($15). They never expire.

Each tagged bag must:

  • be under 66 cm (26 in) wide and 90 cm (35 in) high
  • weigh less than 20 kg (44 lb)
  • be tied at the top

You can buy garbage tags online or by phone at 905-791-9499 (Visa or Mastercard), and they arrive by mail. In Brampton, you can also buy them in person at Brampton City Hall, Bramalea Civic Centre, several recreation centres and the Heart Lake Community Recycling Centre at 420 Railside Dr.

Bulky items such as furniture, mattresses and barbecues (with the propane tank removed) go out for free on your regular garbage day, by 7 a.m., according to Peel Region’s bulky items page.

Brampton yard waste and leaves this fall

Brampton yard waste goes out on your yard waste collection day, in Kraft brown paper bags or a labelled container. Plastic bags of leaves are left at the curb. The last fall yard waste dates for your street are in your collection calendar. Our Brampton leaf pickup guide covers the fall leaf vacuum zones and bag rules.

Peel Region’s yard waste rules:

  • Paper bags or containers under 20 kg (44 lb)
  • Containers no bigger than 125 L, with rigid handles, labelled “yard waste” (free stickers are available at Community Recycling Centres or Access Peel)
  • Branches under 1.2 m (4 ft) long and 10 cm (4 in) wide, tied in bundles
  • Collection can run as late as 8 p.m.

Your carved Halloween pumpkin counts as yard waste once the candle is out, so pumpkins from Halloween night, Brampton’s Halloween events or a trip to the pumpkin patches near Brampton can go out with your leaves.

Downtown Brampton and Churchville are different. The City runs a Leaf Vacuum Program on set streets there, from mid to late autumn. Residents on those streets rake leaves into a neat pile at the edge of the boulevard one or two days before their collection date, and check the City’s tracker map.

What changes in October 2027?

The City of Brampton will take over garbage, organics and yard waste collection from Peel Region on October 1, 2027, and will also serve the Town of Caledon. Peel Regional Council set that date in September 2025 to match the end of the current collection contracts on September 30, 2027.

For now, nothing changes for residents. Peel Region said there are “no immediate changes to the public” from the new date, and that more details will come closer to the switch. Peel Region will keep running the Community Recycling Centres and waste processing after the transfer.
