How do I find my Mississauga garbage collection schedule?
Mississauga residents find their garbage day by typing their home address into Peel Region’s online collection calendar. It shows your garbage, organics, recycling and yard waste days and any special collection dates, and you can sign up there for free reminders by email, text message or phone call.
- Open the Peel Region collection calendar.
- Type your street address and select it.
- Note whether this week is a garbage week, then sign up for reminders.
Check the calendar again before a holiday, since special collection dates appear there.
What day is garbage day in Mississauga?
Mississauga has no single garbage day. Peel Region collects in Mississauga Monday to Thursday, the City of Mississauga says, and each address has its own day. Peel Region says garbage goes every other week for most households and organics goes every week.
So your pattern is organics one week, then garbage and organics the next. A neighbour across a main road can be on a different day or a different week.
Setting out your bins: times and rules
Peel Region’s set-out rules are the same in Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon.

| Rule | What Peel Region says |
|---|---|
| Put bins out | By 7 a.m. on collection day |
| Take bins in | By 8 p.m. on collection day |
| Spacing | An arm’s length apart |
| Direction | Front of the bin to the street, handles toward your house |
| Placement | Close to the road without blocking the road or sidewalk, away from parked cars and trees |
| Organics bin | Lid locked, with the lock in the vertical position |
| Winter | 1 m (3 ft) back from the road or curb, never behind or on a snowbank |
If your bins are still full at 8 p.m., report waste not picked up to Peel Region. The full list is on Peel’s setting out your bins page.
What goes in each bin
Garbage (grey bin): comes in three sizes, according to Peel Region’s bin sizes page: small (120 L, about 1 to 2 bags), medium (240 L, about 3 to 4 bags) and large (360 L, about 4 to 5 bags).
Organics (green bin): every home with bin collection uses the same 100 L green bin, plus a kitchen container. Peel Region says the green bin is not available for apartments and condos.
Recycling (blue bin): since January 1, 2026, Circular Materials manages recycling in Mississauga. Peel Region says your schedule and blue bin stay the same. Missed recycling goes to GFL, Circular Materials’ collection contractor, at 1-877-268-4351 or through Peel’s recycling page.
Not sure where something goes? Search it in Peel Region’s waste sorter.
If you live in an apartment or condo, Peel Region says to ask your property manager about collection in your building.
Extra garbage, tags and bulky items
Extra garbage in Mississauga needs a black plastic bag and a Peel Region garbage tag. Tags cost $3 each and come only in sheets of 5 ($15). They don’t expire, and every extra bag needs one.
Buy garbage tags online or by phone at 905-791-9499 (Visa or Mastercard), and they arrive by mail. You can also buy them in person in Mississauga at:
- The Region of Peel office, 7120 Hurontario St.
- Fewster Community Recycling Centre, 1126 Fewster Dr. (debit or credit only)
- Mississauga Seniors’ Centre, 1389 Cawthra Rd.
- Clarkson Community Centre, 2475 Truscott Dr.
- Erin Meadows Community Centre, 2800 Erin Centre Blvd.
- Malton Community Centre, 3540 Morning Star Dr.
- Meadowvale Community Centre, 6655 Glen Erin Dr.
Bulky items such as furniture, mattresses and barbecues (propane tank removed) go to the curb for free on your regular garbage day, by 7 a.m., according to Peel’s bulky items page.
You can also drop off extra garbage at Mississauga’s two Community Recycling Centres, Battleford (2255 Battleford Rd.) and Fewster (1126 Fewster Dr.). Fees apply. Check hours on Peel’s CRC locations page.
Mississauga yard waste and leaves this fall
Peel Region picks up Mississauga yard waste every week in the fall, from October to mid-December, the City of Mississauga says. Put leaves out on your yard waste day in Kraft brown paper bags or a labelled container. Peel Region won’t collect leaves in plastic bags.
Peel Region’s yard waste rules:
- Bags or containers under 20 kg (44 lb) when full
- Bags no bigger than 66 cm (26 in) wide and 90 cm (35 in) high
- Containers up to 125 L, with rigid handles, labelled “yard waste.” Free stickers are available at any Community Recycling Centre or at Access Peel, 7120 Hurontario St.
- Blue, grey and green bins don’t count as yard waste containers
Your Halloween pumpkin can go out with the leaves once the candle is out. That includes pumpkins from the pumpkin patches near Brampton or a Halloween event in Brampton.
City leaf pickup on older streets. The City of Mississauga runs its own fall leaf pickup on streets more than 35 years old with many large mature trees. If your street is on the City’s route map, rake loose leaves into a neat pile at the edge of the boulevard or into your ditch a day or two before your collection week. Keep leaves off the road and storm drains, and don’t put bags or bins on the pile. Rain or early snow can delay it. Call 311 (905-615-4311 from outside Mississauga) for updates.
What changes in October 2027?
The City of Mississauga takes over garbage, organics and yard waste collection from Peel Region on October 1, 2027, under new City contracts. Peel Regional Council approved that date in September 2025 to match the end of the current contracts.
The City of Mississauga confirmed in April 2026 what changes then:
| Service | Now (Peel Region) | From October 1, 2027 (City of Mississauga) |
|---|---|---|
| Garbage collection days | Monday to Thursday | Monday to Friday |
| Yard waste | Weekly in spring and fall, every other week in summer | Every other week, mid-March to mid-December |
| Recycling | Circular Materials | Circular Materials (the City collects at about 1,000 sites Circular Materials does not serve) |
| Community Recycling Centres | Peel Region | Peel Region |
Some residents will get a new garbage and organics day. The City says it will notify residents before October 1, 2027. Until then, nothing changes.
Mississauga vs. Brampton: who collects your garbage?
Both cities share one Peel Region system today, so the rules, bins and tag prices match. The differences are in leaf pickup and the 2027 handover.

| Recycling | Circular Materials | Circular Materials |
| Tags | $3 each, sheets of 5 | $3 each, sheets of 5 |
