Brampton 311: How to Report a Problem or Reach the City

Brampton 311 is the City of Brampton’s main contact for non-emergency questions and problems, from potholes and parking complaints to noise and fallen trees in parks. You can reach it by dialling 311, through the Brampton 311 app, online at 311brampton.ca, or by email at 311@brampton.ca, with phone agents available 7 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week.

If you are new to how City and Region services are split, our Brampton property tax explainer shows how your bill pays for each.

What is Brampton 311?

Brampton 311 is the City’s non-emergency service line and request system. The City’s About 311 page says you can use it to ask about City programs or services, report an issue on City property, request a City service, or get help finding the right City contact.

Every report becomes a service request with its own reference number, which the City routes to the division that handles it. 311 is run by the City of Brampton, so it covers City services such as roads, parks, by-law enforcement, parking, animal services and recreation. Services run by Peel Region, the Province or the federal government have their own contact lines, covered further down.

What can you report to Brampton 311?

You can report most problems on City property to Brampton 311, plus by-law issues such as parking and noise. The service request categories on 311brampton.ca include:

  • roads and sidewalks
  • parking services and mobile licensing
  • property concerns and by-law enforcement
  • rental housing concerns
  • parks, trees and recreation trails
  • city grass maintenance
  • animal services
  • litter and graffiti
  • speeding concerns
  • recreation services
  • encampments
  • the 2026 municipal election

Among the most-used requests on the site are reporting a parking infraction, a continuous noise complaint, litter or debris on City property, and tree pruning or inspection by the City’s forestry team.

A car parked on your street for longer than 3 hours or between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. breaks the City’s rules, which our guide to Brampton’s parking rules and overnight fines explains.

Urgent or non-urgent: which is your request?

Brampton 311 treats a request as urgent if it could cause harm to people, animals or property. The City’s About 311 page gives these examples:

Urgent (call 311, any time)Non-urgent (use the app or website)
Injured or aggressive animalFound or stray animal
Fallen tree blocking a road or sidewalkFallen tree in a park
Traffic signals out or a stop sign downStreet light out
Vehicle blocking access to a drivewayVehicle parked longer than 3 hours

The difference matters most overnight. From midnight to 7 a.m., agents take urgent calls only, so a broken street light or an overstaying car should go through the app or 311brampton.ca.

If anyone is in danger, a fire is burning or a crime is in progress, call 911, not 311.

How to report a problem, step by step

Reporting a problem to Brampton 311 works the same way on any channel. These steps follow the City’s description of how service requests work.

Four steps to report a problem to Brampton 311: choose a channel, give the exact location, save the reference number, track the request
  1. Pick the channel. Urgent issues: call 311. Non-urgent issues: use the Brampton 311 app or 311brampton.ca, or call during the 7 a.m. to midnight hours.
  2. Choose the right category. On 311brampton.ca, you can type a word such as “pothole” in the search box to see related request types.
  3. Give the exact location. A street address, the nearest intersection, or the park name helps the City route the request.
  4. Describe the problem. Say what you see and whether it is a safety risk.
  5. Save your reference number. You receive a service request number when you submit. The City says it can’t give updates on a request without it.
  6. Track it. Check the status online or call 311 with your reference number.

To change or cancel a request, call 311 with your reference number and an agent will help, the City’s 311 FAQ page says.

What happens after you contact 311?

After you contact Brampton 311, your report is logged as a service request and sent to the City division responsible for it. You get a reference number to track progress, and the City says response times depend on the type and urgency of the request.

The City’s Modern Framework page walks through two examples:

  • A parking infraction: the request goes to Enforcement and By-law Services, an officer may be sent if needed, and the issue is handled under City by-laws. The City notes that service levels depend on priority and officer availability.
  • Litter or debris: the request goes to Parks Maintenance and Operations or Roads Maintenance and Operations, depending on where it is, and stays open in the system until crews deal with it.

Your reference number protects your privacy. If you lose it, the City says 311 can’t give you an update on that request.

Brampton 311 is changing: what’s new

The City of Brampton is in the middle of a two-phase upgrade to 311 and the Brampton Transit call centre, which it calls the 311 Modernization Program. The Call Centre Modernization page sets out both phases.

PhaseStatusWhat it includes
Phase 1Launched October 2025A new automated phone system (IVR), a better phone menu, and SMS text alerts for snow updates, parking and enforcement notices
Phase 2UnderwayWeb chat and virtual assistance on 311brampton.ca, automatic request creation across platforms, better tracking, email status updates and more language support

The City says that during recent snow events, 44 per cent of incoming calls were resolved through automated messages, without waiting for an agent. In winter, our Brampton snow clearing guide explains the plow order and how to report an uncleared sidewalk.

Which services are not Brampton 311?

Some of the services Brampton residents use most are not run by the City, so 311 is not the fastest route. Here is where to go instead, from the City’s About 311 page and Peel Region’s contact page:

Peel Region’s Customer Contact Centre also offers live chat on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and email at info@peelregion.ca. Its regional headquarters at 10 Peel Centre Drive in Brampton has in-person counters, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

For your collection day and what goes in each bin, see our Brampton garbage collection schedule guide.

Passports are a federal service, not a City one. Our Brampton passport office guide covers where to apply and what to bring.

Brampton 311 for newcomers and other languages

Brampton 311 serves callers in more than 150 languages, Monday to Sunday from 7 a.m. to midnight, the City says. You can call and ask for help in your language.

For newcomers, 311 is a useful first call because you don’t need to know which department runs a service. Ask the agent where to start, and they can connect you or open a request. City programs such as swimming lessons and camps have their own sign-up process, which our Brampton recreation registration guide walks through.

What this means for you

Save 311 in your phone, and install the Brampton 311 app if you report problems often. For non-urgent issues, the app or 311brampton.ca lets you add the exact location and track the request without waiting on hold.

Keep every reference number until your request is closed. Without it, the City can’t give you an update.

And before you call, check whether the service is the City’s or Peel Region’s. Garbage and water questions go to Peel Region at 905-791-7800, not 311.
