Which school board trustee will be on your ballot?

Brampton voters choose one school board trustee, and the board is set by the school support listed for you on the Voters’ List. The City says English public is the default, even for property owners without children. Separate (Catholic) board voters must be Roman Catholic, and French board voters must have French language rights under the Charter.

Each voter gets one trustee vote. The City says the type of ballot you receive depends on your school support as recorded on the Voters’ List. Check your details with the City’s Am I On the List? tool, and the City says you can update your information when you go to vote.

The City says school board information on the Voters’ List comes from MPAC, the agency that assesses properties for your Brampton property tax bill.

French school board trustees

Conseil scolaire Viamonde elects one trustee for the whole Region of Peel, and the two candidates on Brampton’s list are Mahmad Neezam Chutoo and Pierre Gregory. The City notes that candidates for this seat filed their nominations with the City of Mississauga.

Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir elects one trustee for Brampton, Caledon, Guelph and the municipalities in Dufferin and Wellington County. Genevieve Grenier was acclaimed, so this race will not appear on ballots.

Both Peel boards are under provincial supervision

The Peel District School Board and the Dufferin-Peel Catholic board are both on Ontario’s list of school boards under supervision. The Ministry of Education says it took control of the PDSB in January 2026 and appointed Heather Watt to oversee it. The DPCDSB says it was placed under supervision on June 27, 2025, with Rick Byers as supervisor.

The DPCDSB says decisions trustees would normally make now rest with the supervisor, except denominational matters. The province’s oversight page does not give an end date for either supervision. That means the trustees elected on October 26 may have limited decision-making power until the province returns control to the boards.

Under Ontario’s Education Act, a trustee’s duties include attending board meetings, bringing the concerns of parents and students to the board, and keeping the focus on student achievement and well-being.

What this means for you

Look up your ward and school support first, then read up on the candidates in that one race. Your voter notice and the City’s Where Do I Vote? tool show your ward. The trustee race sits on the same ballot as the mayor’s race and your city and regional councillor races.

To research a trustee candidate, look for their own website or social media, and ask about their plans for your local schools. Brampton Brief does not endorse candidates. If your family is weighing high school options, our guide to Peel’s specialized high school programs explains how Brampton students apply.

FAQ

How many school board trustees can I vote for in Brampton?
One. You vote in the trustee race for the school board listed as your school support on the Voters’ List.

Do I have to support the English public board?
It is the default. The City says you must be Roman Catholic to vote for a Catholic board and have French language rights to vote for a French board.

Why is there no French Catholic trustee race on my ballot?
Genevieve Grenier was acclaimed for Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir, so no vote is held for that seat.

Do trustees have power while the boards are under supervision?
Limited power. The supervisor makes decisions trustees would normally make, and the DPCDSB says denominational matters stay with its trustees.

Is this the final candidate list?
The City Clerk signed the amended certification on August 25, 2026. Check the City’s list before you vote for any later changes.
