What is the Advance Brampton Fund?
The Advance Brampton Fund is the City of Brampton’s community grant program for local charities and non-profit groups. It pays for projects in Brampton that fit one of three City priorities: arts and culture, community safety, or recreation. The City says it has invested $7.7 million in more than 700 community projects since 2020.
The program is built to help a project grow over time. A group can start with a small grant for a new idea, then apply to larger streams once the project has run in Brampton before. One organization can send only one application per year.
Advance Brampton Fund 2027 dates and deadlines
The 2027 Advance Brampton Fund intake follows this schedule from the 2027 guidelines:
| Step | Date |
|---|---|
| Applications open | Monday, November 2, 2026 |
| Last day to email or phone staff with questions | Thursday, November 26, 2026, 4 p.m. |
| Applications close | Monday, November 30, 2026, 11:59 p.m. |
| Review and evaluation | December 2026 to early 2027 |
| Council approves the 2027 budget (expected) | Late first quarter of 2027 |
| Applicants notified | Late first quarter of 2027, after budget approval |
| Project period | January 1 to December 31, 2027 |
| Project Close Out Report due | December 31, 2027 |
Late or incomplete applications are not accepted. The City treats an application as complete only when every required document is uploaded to the portal.
One timing detail catches people out: projects can run from January 1, 2027, but funding decisions are not expected until late in the first quarter. The guidelines say the City has no obligation to pay if you start a project or spend money before you hear back.
Advance Brampton Fund streams and how much you can get
The Advance Brampton Fund has three streams in 2027. Which one you pick depends on how many times your project has already run in Brampton.
| Stream | Who it’s for | Maximum grant | Matching funds | Who can apply |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| New and Small Projects | New projects, or past projects with small budgets | $5,000 (up to 100% of eligible costs) | Not required | Registered charities, incorporated non-profits, unincorporated non-profits |
| Developing Projects | Projects delivered in Brampton at least once | $12,500 (up to 50% of eligible costs) | Required | Registered charities, incorporated non-profits |
| Amplifying Projects | Projects delivered in Brampton at least twice | $25,000 (up to 50% of eligible costs) | Required | Registered charities, incorporated non-profits |
How matching funds work
In the Developing and Amplifying streams, your matching contributions must be at least equal to the amount you ask the City for. They can include:
- your organization’s own money
- funding confirmed from other sources
- eligible in-kind contributions
- eligible volunteer time, which the City values at $17.20 an hour
Worked example: a group asking for the full $12,500 in the Developing stream needs at least $12,500 in matching support. If 40 volunteers each give 10 hours, that is 400 hours, worth 400 × $17.20 = $6,880 toward the match. The group would still need $5,620 from other sources or in-kind support. Keep records of the hours, because the City can ask for proof.
Minimum scores
Staff score each eligible application. To be considered for funding, the guidelines set these minimum overall scores: 50% for New and Small, 60% for Developing and 70% for Amplifying. Reaching the minimum does not guarantee money, and the City can reduce the amount you asked for.

Who is eligible for the Advance Brampton Fund?
Three kinds of organizations can apply to the Advance Brampton Fund, and each must be based in Brampton.
Registered charities
A registered charity needs a permanent office address in Brampton, shown on its Canada Revenue Agency Charity Details Page (T3010). If the charity is also incorporated, it must add its Corporation Profile Report or Corporation Information Page, also showing a Brampton address.
Incorporated non-profits
An incorporated not-for-profit corporation (without share capital) needs a Corporation Information Page or Corporation Profile Report that lists a Brampton office address.
Unincorporated non-profits (New and Small stream only)
A group of two or more Brampton residents with a non-profit purpose can apply to the New and Small Projects stream if it has:
- a volunteer board of directors, and a list of its members
- a constitution, by-laws, charter or terms of reference showing its non-profit purpose
- two authorized board members over 19 who live in Brampton and sign the application and the City’s grant agreement personally and for the group, with photo ID
- a bank account in the organization’s name
All documents must be current and obtained in 2026. The City will not accept documents from earlier years, and the name and address in your application must match them.
Who can’t apply
The guidelines list organizations that are not eligible, including:
- individuals, for-profit businesses and sole proprietors
- schools, school boards, classroom projects and public libraries
- organizations whose core funding comes from the City of Brampton
- political organizations
- hospitals, clinics and medical treatment projects
- fundraising associations
- provincial or national groups, unless a local chapter with a permanent Brampton office applies for a Brampton-only project
- religious groups whose project promotes, or requires taking part in, a specific faith
City employees, elected officials and their staff can’t be the contact or signing authority on an application.
What the Advance Brampton Fund will and won’t pay for
Your project must fit one priority area and at least one of its project types. Examples from the City’s guidelines:
| Priority area | Example projects |
|---|---|
| Arts and culture | Mentorship for emerging artists, local art exhibitions, concert series, theatre or dance productions, multicultural arts festivals |
| Community safety | Community ambassador programs, workshops and resource fairs, multilingual outreach, social inclusion and conflict resolution programs |
| Recreation | Indoor and outdoor physical activity programs, recreation for newcomers, seniors, youth or people with disabilities, multicultural recreation |
Projects that don’t qualify
The City won’t fund projects outside Brampton, banquets, beauty pageants, neighbourhood watch programs, fundraisers, private events, partisan events, projects at private homes, tree plantings, community gardens and park clean-ups run by the Parks Division, projects that duplicate City services, or major capital projects such as land, buildings or vehicles.
Costs that don’t qualify
Common ineligible costs include permanent staff salaries, office rent and utilities, trophies and prizes, scholarships, fireworks, insurance, conference fees, membership dues, travel and accommodation, alcohol or cannabis, and anything spent before the project year. Capital purchases are capped at $2,500 in the New and Small stream and $5,000 in the other two, and they must be needed to deliver the project.
The insurance requirement most groups need to plan for
Every applicant needs Commercial General Liability insurance of at least $2 million per occurrence, in the organization’s name, with the City of Brampton named as an additional insured. You must prove it with the City’s own Certificate of Insurance form, filled in by an insurance representative licensed in Ontario.
Applications without a completed Certificate of Insurance form are ruled ineligible and don’t go on to scoring. If your group doesn’t carry this insurance yet, talk to a broker now. Getting a policy and the signed form can take time, and the deadline is November 30. The form is linked on the City’s Advance Brampton Fund page.
How to apply to the Advance Brampton Fund, step by step
Applications go through the City of Brampton Grants and Funding Portal, reached from brampton.ca/abf.
- Create an organizational profile. New for 2027, the portal accepts applications only from organization profiles, not individual ones. Groups that applied before with a personal profile must make an organization profile first.
- Pick your stream. Log in, review the three streams and click “Apply” on the one that fits.
- Answer every question and upload your documents. That includes your proof of status (Section 6.3 of the guidelines), your budget showing any matching funds, and the Certificate of Insurance.
- Submit before 11:59 p.m. on November 30. The portal sends a confirmation message once it receives your application.
If you need an accessible alternative to the online portal, contact the Grant Administration Officer at abf@brampton.ca before the deadline.

Common mistakes that sink an application
Based on the rules in the 2027 guidelines, check these before you hit submit:
- Old paperwork. Corporation or charity documents printed before 2026 are rejected.
- Address mismatch. The name and Brampton address in your application must match your documents.
- Wrong insurance form. Only the City’s Certificate of Insurance form is accepted.
- Individual portal profile. For 2027 you need an organizational profile.
- Two applications from one person. One person can’t be the lead contact or signer on more than one application in the same intake, even across different groups.
- Wrong stream. Unincorporated groups can apply only to New and Small Projects.
- Ineligible costs in the budget, such as staff salaries, rent or prizes.
What happens after you apply
Staff first check every application for eligibility and completeness. Two reviewers with relevant expertise then score each eligible one on project clarity and feasibility, community need and impact, and fit with the chosen priority and stream. The final score is the average of the two.
Funding recommendations go to the City’s Commissioner of Community Services for approval, and applicants hear by email once Council has approved the 2027 budget. Successful groups sign a grant agreement and need a bank account in the organization’s name. New and Small grants are paid in full after the agreement is signed. Developing and Amplifying grants are paid 90% up front, with the last 10% released after the City accepts your Project Close Out Report, due December 31, 2027.
Funded groups must credit the City of Brampton on promotional material, using the logo files and wording the City provides.
