The 2027 Advance Brampton Fund opens for applications on Monday, November 2, 2026, and closes at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, November 30, 2026. The City of Brampton grant gives Brampton non-profits and charities up to $5,000, $12,500 or $25,000 for community projects in arts and culture, community safety or recreation that run during 2027.
The City announced the intake on October 19 and has posted new 2027 guidelines. This guide explains who can apply, what each funding stream pays, what you need to upload, and the dates for free information sessions and workshops. The fund is part of the City’s 2027 budget, so it ties into how Brampton’s property taxes and City budget work.

What is the Advance Brampton Fund?
The Advance Brampton Fund is the City of Brampton’s community grant program for charitable and non-profit organizations. It pays for projects in Brampton that serve residents in three priority areas: arts and culture, community safety, and recreation. The City says the fund has invested $7.7 million in more than 700 community projects since 2020.
Each priority is tied to a City plan. Arts and culture projects follow the Culture Master Plan, community safety projects follow the Community Safety Action Plan, and recreation projects follow the Parks and Recreation Master Plan. Your project needs to fit one priority and at least one of its project types.
The 2027 program depends on Council approving the City’s 2027 budget. Under Ontario’s strong mayor rules, the mayor proposes that budget. Our explainer on Brampton’s strong mayor powers covers how the process works.

How much can you get? The three funding streams
The 2027 Advance Brampton Fund has three streams. The New and Small stream pays up to $5,000 and covers up to 100% of costs. The Developing and Amplifying streams pay up to $12,500 and $25,000, but only half the project cost, so you must match the grant.
| Stream | Maximum grant | Share of costs | Match needed? | Who can apply | Track record needed |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| New and Small Projects | $5,000 | Up to 100% | No | Charities, incorporated and unincorporated non-profits | None |
| Developing | $12,500 | Up to 50% | Yes, at least 50% | Charities and incorporated non-profits | Run at least once in Brampton |
| Amplifying | $25,000 | Up to 50% | Yes, at least 50% | Charities and incorporated non-profits | Run at least twice in Brampton |
Unincorporated groups can apply only to the New and Small stream. The City can also offer less than you ask for. If it does, you can withdraw if the project won’t work with the smaller amount.
What counts as a match?
For the Developing and Amplifying streams, your match must at least equal the grant you request. The guidelines accept your organization’s own cash, confirmed funding from other sources, eligible in-kind donations and eligible volunteer time. Volunteer time counts at $17.20 an hour for 2027. Keep records of every matching contribution, since you have to document them.
Worked example: a Developing stream project
Say a registered charity plans a youth dance program that ran once in Brampton in 2026, with a 2027 budget of $25,000.
- The most it can ask for is $12,500, which is 50% of costs and the stream maximum.
- It needs at least $12,500 in matching support. For example, $6,000 from a foundation, $3,060 in donated hall space and 200 volunteer hours ($3,440 at $17.20 an hour) adds up to $12,500.
- If approved in full, it receives 90% ($11,250) after signing the agreement, and the last 10% ($1,250) after the City approves its close-out report.
Who can apply for the Advance Brampton Fund?
Three kinds of Brampton-based groups can apply for the 2027 Advance Brampton Fund: registered charities, incorporated non-profits, and unincorporated non-profits run by Brampton residents. Each must show a permanent Brampton presence, either through a Brampton office or, for unincorporated groups, two board members who live in Brampton.
Registered charity: valid registration under the Income Tax Act and a permanent Brampton office, shown on the CRA Charity Details (T3010) page.
Incorporated non-profit: incorporated federally or in Ontario as a not-for-profit without share capital, with a permanent Brampton office on its Corporation Information Page or Corporation Profile Report.
Unincorporated non-profit: two or more Brampton residents with a non-profit purpose and a volunteer board. Two board members over 19 with permanent Brampton home addresses must sign the application and grant agreement. The group also needs a bank account in its own name.
Who can’t apply
The guidelines rule out:
- Individuals, for-profit businesses and sole proprietors
- Schools, school boards and classroom or extracurricular projects
- Public libraries and hospitals, and clinic-based or medical treatment projects
- Groups that already get core funding from the City, or whose project duplicates a City program
- Political organizations
- Religious groups whose project promotes or requires a specific faith
- Fundraising associations
- Provincial or national groups, unless a local chapter with a permanent Brampton office applies and the money benefits only Brampton
City employees, elected officials and their office staff can’t be an application’s contact or signing authority.
What projects and costs are eligible?
Advance Brampton Fund projects must take place in Brampton, be open to the public, and run between January 1 and December 31, 2027. Each priority area lists project types the City will fund.
| Priority | Examples of eligible project types |
|---|---|
| Arts and culture | Mentorship, artist-led workshops, community arts, heritage and storytelling, exhibitions, concerts, theatre and dance, multicultural festivals with local artists |
| Community safety | Ambassador and leadership programs, volunteer recruitment, safety workshops and resource fairs, multilingual outreach, violence prevention, conflict resolution |
| Recreation | Indoor and outdoor physical activity, programs for newcomers, seniors, youth and people with disabilities, multicultural and Indigenous cultural recreation |
Projects and costs the fund won’t pay for
The guidelines exclude banquets, beauty pageants, neighbourhood watch or security projects, private events, partisan projects, events at private homes, and projects mainly about fundraising. Tree planting, community gardens and park clean-ups also don’t qualify, since the City’s Parks division runs those.
On costs, the fund won’t pay for permanent salaries, rent, utilities or general administration. It also won’t cover trophies and prizes, alcohol, fireworks, insurance, travel, conference fees, memberships, loan payments or any cost from before 2027. Capital spending is capped at $2,500 for New and Small projects and $5,000 for the other two streams.
How to apply, step by step
You apply online through the City of Brampton Grants and Funding Portal between November 2 and November 30, 2026. The 2027 guidelines add one new rule: the application must come from an organization profile in the portal, not an individual profile.
- Read the 2027 guidelines. The City says they have been updated for this intake, so don’t rely on last year’s rules.
- Attend an info session (optional), and the free workshops if you want help with grant writing, marketing or finances.
- Gather your documents early (see the checklist below). Status documents must be obtained in 2026.
- Go to brampton.ca/abf and choose “Apply Now” once the intake opens on November 2.
- Create or log in to an organization profile. If your group applied last year under a person’s profile, set up an organization profile first.
- Pick your stream, answer every question and upload your documents.
- Submit before 11:59 p.m. on November 30. The portal shows a confirmation message when your application goes through.
If you need an accessibility accommodation to apply, ask the City’s Grant Administration Officer at abf@brampton.ca ahead of time.
Document checklist
- Charities: the CRA Charity Details (T3010) page showing a Brampton office, plus corporate records if incorporated
- Incorporated non-profits: Corporation Information Page or Corporation Profile Report showing a Brampton office
- Unincorporated groups: a document naming the two signing members, photo ID showing they are over 19 and live in Brampton, a list of board members, and your constitution, by-laws or terms of agreement
- Everyone: the City’s Certificate of Insurance form
- Matching streams: proof of all matching contributions
Names and addresses must match across your documents.

Insurance: the requirement that sinks applications
The guidelines say applications without the City’s Certificate of Insurance form are ineligible. You need commercial general liability insurance of $2 million per occurrence in your organization’s name, with the City of Brampton named as an additional insured. An insurer licensed in Ontario must complete the City’s form. Contact your insurance broker well before November 30, since this can take time.
How applications are scored
City staff first check that each application is eligible and complete. Two evaluators then score it on project clarity and feasibility, community need and impact, and fit with the priority area and stream. Budgets are checked to make sure costs are reasonable and eligible.
Each stream has a minimum score: 50% for New and Small, 60% for Developing and 70% for Amplifying. Final recommendations go to the City’s Commissioner of Community Services, under authority Council has delegated.
What happens after you’re approved
The City expects to send decisions by email late in the first quarter of 2027, after Council approves the budget. Signing the agreement and receiving payment can take several weeks after that.
- New and Small: 100% of the grant is paid after the agreement is signed.
- Developing and Amplifying: 90% is paid after signing, and 10% after the City approves your close-out report.
The Project Close Out Report is due by December 31, 2027. Missing it means losing the 10% holdback and becoming ineligible for future City funding. Recipients must also credit the City using its logo and wording, keep records for possible audit, and tell the City about any major changes to the project.
What this means for you
If you run a Brampton non-profit, a sports or arts group, or a volunteer-led community program, mark November 30 in your calendar now. Start with the insurance certificate and your 2026 status documents, since those take longest. Smaller or newer groups should look at the New and Small stream, which needs no match and no track record. Groups whose project already ran in Brampton can aim for Developing or Amplifying if they can match the grant.
Residents who want to take part in City programs can find those in our Brampton recreation registration guide.
