Mississauga Waste Management: Dumps, Fees and Who to Call

Mississauga waste management is split between three organizations right now: Peel Region collects your garbage, organics and yard waste, Circular Materials runs recycling, and Peel’s Community Recycling Centres take what the curb won’t. The City of Mississauga takes over curbside collection on October 1, 2027. Below: the two Mississauga waste management drop-off sites and their fees, what’s free, bulky items, extra bags, who to call for each problem, and what changes in 2027.

At a glance

  • Curbside garbage, organics and yard waste: Peel Region, until September 30, 2027. Find your day in Peel’s collection calendar, or read our Mississauga garbage collection schedule guide.

Who handles Mississauga waste management today?

Mississauga waste management has three owners in 2026. Peel Region picks up garbage, organics (green bin) and yard waste at the curb and runs the Community Recycling Centres (CRCs). Circular Materials, a producer-funded organization, took over recycling on January 1, 2026, under Ontario’s producer responsibility rules, Peel Region says.

Where are the Mississauga dumps?

For Mississauga waste management drop-offs, there are two Peel Region sites, Battleford CRC and Fewster CRC, and both are open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Sunday, according to Peel’s location pages. Both close on November 11 for Remembrance Day and on every statutory and provincial holiday.

Mississauga residents can use any Peel CRC, since the rule is that the waste comes from Peel. The four others are the Brampton CRC (395 Chrysler Dr.), Heart Lake CRC (420 Railside Dr., Brampton), Bolton CRC and Caledon CRC. Our Brampton dump hours guide covers the two Brampton sites.

What to bring to a Peel CRC

Bring proof that you live in Peel. Peel’s drop-off guidelines accept any of these:

  • a driver’s licence
  • a water, gas or electricity bill
  • an internet or phone bill
  • your municipal tax bill
  • a lease agreement (valid up to a year)

Children under 12 stay in the vehicle while you unload. Secure your load before you drive, sort items into the right bin, and don’t climb on the walls or guardrails.

How much does the Mississauga dump cost?

For drop-offs, Peel charges a $7 minimum for loads of chargeable items, and anything beyond that is charged at 14.5 cents per kilogram, according to its disposal fees page. Garbage, renovation waste and yard waste are chargeable. Dedicated loads of recycling, metal, electronics and appliances are free.

Payment is debit, Visa or Mastercard. Peel CRCs don’t take cash.

Fewster CRC also sells green bin kitchen containers for $5 each while quantities last, and backyard composters for $22 (taxes included) from April to June.

What can you drop off for free?

Household hazardous waste is free at every Peel CRC, and it’s never collected at the curb. Peel’s household hazardous waste page lists paint and stains, batteries (tape the terminals), fuels and solvents, automotive fluids and oil filters, fertilizers and pesticides, aerosol cans, cleaners, pool chemicals, cooking oil, medications, sharps in an approved container, light bulbs and mercury thermometers.

Limits apply:

ItemDaily limit
Liquids80 L per day, in containers no bigger than 30 L
Light bulbs and tubes40 per day, removed from fixtures
Propane and helium cylinders5 per day, 18 kg maximum size

Keep products in sealed, labelled containers and don’t mix them. Peel doesn’t accept asbestos, radioactive waste or PCB-contaminated waste; you need a licensed professional for those. For firearms, explosives and ammunition, Peel says to contact Peel Police. Road flares and marine flares aren’t accepted at CRCs either.

Both Mississauga CRCs also take reusable goods for donation, such as kitchenware, home décor, clothing, linens and books.

Big items: furniture, mattresses and barbecues

Bulky items are one of the cheapest parts of Mississauga waste management. Peel collects bulky items from the curb for free on your regular garbage day, according to its bulky items page. Furniture, mattresses and barbecues qualify. Put them out by 7 a.m. Take the propane tank off a barbecue first and bring the tank to a CRC.

You can also haul bulky items to Battleford or Fewster, but drop-off fees apply there. For most households, the curb is cheaper.

What if your garbage won’t fit in the bin?

Extra garbage goes at the curb in a black plastic bag with a Peel garbage tag on it. Tags cost $3 each and come only in sheets of 5 for $15, according to Peel’s garbage tag page. They don’t expire and sales are final.

Each tagged bag must be under 66 cm (26 in) wide and 90 cm (35 in) high, bigger than 30 cm by 30 cm, under 20 kg (44 lb) and tied at the top.

Where to buy tags in Mississauga

Order online or by phone at 905-791-9499 (Visa or Mastercard), and the tags come by mail. To buy in person, Peel lists these Mississauga locations, where you can pay with cash, debit or credit (card only at the CRC):

  • Fewster Community Recycling Centre, 1126 Fewster Dr.
  • Region of Peel, 7120 Hurontario St.
  • Mississauga Seniors’ Centre, 1389 Cawthra Rd.
  • Clarkson Community Centre, 2475 Truscott Dr.
  • Erin Meadows Community Centre, 2800 Erin Centre Blvd.
  • Malton Community Centre, 3540 Morning Star Dr.
  • Meadowvale Community Centre, 6655 Glen Erin Dr.

A quick cost comparison

Say you have two extra bags after a party. Two tags cost $6 and the bags go out with your regular garbage. Driving them to a CRC means paying at least the $7 minimum, plus the trip. Tags win for small amounts. A CRC makes sense for a car full of renovation waste, or anything the curb won’t take.

Bin sizes and bag-based homes

Peel issues garbage bins in three sizes, according to its bin sizes page:

BinSizeHolds about
Small garbage120 L1 to 2 bags
Medium garbage240 L3 to 4 bags
Large garbage360 L4 to 5 bags
Organics (green bin)100 LOne size only

You can switch garbage bin sizes for a fee. Tenants have to ask their landlord, since only owners can request an exchange. Homes on bag-based collection can put out up to four garbage bags or full containers per garbage day, plus the green bin.

Apartment and condo residents should ask property management about collection. Peel says green bins aren’t available in multi-unit buildings.

Yard waste this fall

Yard waste is the busiest part of Mississauga waste management in the fall. It goes out in Kraft paper bags or in a container clearly labelled “yard waste,” and Peel never collects yard waste in plastic bags. In Mississauga, yard waste pickup runs weekly in the fall from October to mid-December, the City of Mississauga says.

Peel’s yard waste set-out rules say each bag or container must weigh under 20 kg. Containers need rigid handles, must be smaller than 60 cm wide and 95 cm high, and hold no more than 125 L. Free “yard waste” stickers are available at any CRC, at Access Peel (7120 Hurontario St.), or by calling 905-791-9499.

Halloween pumpkins count as yard waste, Peel says, as long as the candle is out. Leaves, branches, brush and garden plants qualify too. Peel residents still can’t move ash trees or ash wood because of the emerald ash borer.

Winter set-out rules

Mississauga waste management doesn’t stop for snow. Once snow arrives, Peel asks you to clear a flat spot at the end of the driveway and set bins 1 m (3 ft) back from the road so plows can pass. Never put bins behind or on top of a snowbank. Peel fixes or replaces bins damaged by plows for free, according to its set-out page.

Year round, bins go out by 7 a.m. and come in by 8 p.m., an arm’s length apart, with the handles facing your house.

What changes in Mississauga waste management in 2027?

The City of Mississauga takes over garbage, organics and yard waste collection from Peel Region on October 1, 2027, and Council has already approved the new service levels, according to a City of Mississauga news release from April 1, 2026.

Some residents will get a new garbage and organics day. The City says it will tell residents their day before October 1, 2027. Until then, keep following Peel’s calendar.

What this means for you

For the rest of 2026, your Mississauga waste management contacts stay the same: Peel for garbage, organics, yard waste and drop-offs, GFL for missed recycling. Save 905-791-9499 in your phone. Plan any big drop-off around November 11, when both Mississauga CRCs close, and bring your licence or a utility bill.

If something wasn’t collected, check the common reasons first: bins out after 7 a.m., handles facing the wrong way, a parked car in the way, or bins on a snowbank. If none apply and it’s past 8 p.m., report it to Peel.
