Mississauga Leaf Pickup 2026: Zone Dates, Map and Bag Rules

Updated October 21, 2026

Mississauga leaf pickup 2026 runs in three colour zones, and the first trucks reach Yellow zone streets the week of October 26 to 30. The City of Mississauga vacuums loose leaves from the curb on older, tree-lined streets only, two rounds per street, and everyone else bags leaves for Peel Region’s yard waste day.

Who gets Mississauga’s vacuum leaf pickup?

Mississauga’s vacuum leaf pickup covers streets that are more than 35 years old and have many large mature trees, the City’s fall leaf pickup page says. Streets built more recently don’t meet that test. The only way to know for sure is to look up your street on the City’s leaf pickup route map.

The program is run by the City of Mississauga, not Peel Region. That matters because it has its own map, its own alerts and its own phone line (311). Peel Region still collects bagged leaves on your regular yard waste day, whether or not your street gets the vacuum trucks.

Mississauga leaf pickup 2026 schedule by zone

The 2026 Mississauga leaf pickup schedule splits eligible streets into Yellow, Blue and Green zones, with two collection weeks each. We read the dates directly from the City’s 2026 Vacuum Leaf Collection Program route data, which sits behind the leaf pickup route map linked from mississauga.ca.

BlueNovember 2 to 6November 23 to 27Weekend of October 31 and November 1
GreenNovember 9 to 13November 30 to December 4Weekend of November 7 and 8

Rain or early snow can push these dates back. The City says you can call 311 to check whether your street is affected, or sign up for its leaf pickup email alerts, which include rain and snow delays.

Which zone is my ward in?

Most Mississauga wards have streets in more than one zone, so your ward only narrows it down. This list comes from the same 2026 route data.

If your ward shows two colours, check your own street on the map. A street can also be missing entirely if it does not meet the age and tree-canopy test.

How to look up your street on the route map

Finding your Mississauga leaf pickup 2026 dates takes about a minute on the City’s map:

  1. Open the leaf pickup route map from the City’s fall leaf pickup page.
  2. Search for your street name or zoom to your neighbourhood.
  3. Check your street’s zone colour (Yellow, Blue or Green) and match it to the table above.
  4. If your street isn’t in a 2026 zone, you are not on the vacuum program this year. Skip ahead to the bagging rules below.

Then sign up for leaf pickup alerts so you hear about weather delays by email.

How to rake leaves for the vacuum trucks

The City of Mississauga lists five rules for streets on the program, and crews can’t pick up a pile that breaks them.

  • Rake leaves into a neat pile on the edge of the boulevard, or into your ditch, a day or two before your collection week starts.
  • Leave out wood, bricks and brush. They damage the equipment and can injure workers.
  • Keep the road and the storm drains along the curb clear of leaves.
  • Don’t put garbage bags or bins on top of loose leaf piles.
  • Move parked cars and sports equipment off the road.

The storm drain rule is the one people miss. Leaves raked onto the road wash into drains during the next rain and can cause flooding on your street.

A worked example

Say you live on a Yellow zone street. Your first collection week starts Monday, October 26, which is also municipal election day, so plan your raking around voting. You would rake on Saturday, October 24 or Sunday, October 25.

Leaves that fall after the first pass get a second chance the week of November 16 to 20, so you would rake again on the weekend of November 14 and 15. Anything that falls after that goes in paper bags for Peel’s yard waste day. If you are also heading to the polls that Monday, our Mississauga election day guide has voting hours and ID rules.

Not on the map? Bag leaves for Peel yard waste day

If your street is not on the vacuum program, or more leaves fall after your second pass, the City says Peel Region collects leaves and yard waste on your regular yard waste day. Peel Region still runs curbside collection in Mississauga in 2026, and its set-out rules are the same across Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon.

Kraft paper bag rules

Peel Region collects only Kraft brown paper yard waste bags. Each bag must:

  • weigh less than 20 kg (44 lbs) when full
  • have room at the top to close it
  • be smaller than 66 cm (26 in) wide and 90 cm (35 in) high

Plastic bags full of leaves are not collected.

Bin and container rules

You can use your own container instead, if it:

  • weighs less than 20 kg (44 lbs) when full
  • has rigid handles
  • measures less than 60 cm (24 in) wide and 95 cm (38 in) high
  • holds 125 L (27.5 gallons) or less
  • is clearly labelled “yard waste” with a marker or sticker

Your blue, grey and green Peel carts don’t count as yard waste containers. Free yard waste stickers are available at any Peel Community Recycling Centre, at Access Peel (7120 Hurontario Street in Mississauga, or 10 Peel Centre Drive in Brampton, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.), or by calling 905-791-9499.

Timing on collection day

Peel Region says yard waste is picked up any time between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. on your yard waste day, so have bags at the curb by 7 a.m. Collectors may open bags to check that only yard waste is inside. Your yard waste day and the last pickup of 2026 are on Peel Region’s collection calendar.

What counts as yard waste in Peel

Peel Region accepts leaves and yard rakings, tree trimmings and branches, brush and hedge trimmings, and household and garden plants. Halloween pumpkins are accepted too, as long as the candle is out, which makes the first week of November a good time to clear the porch and the lawn together.

One rule applies all year: Peel residents may not move or transport ash trees or ash wood, to stop the spread of the Emerald Ash Borer. When in doubt, Peel’s waste sorter tells you which bin an item belongs in.

Too many leaves for the curb?

You have three options when the bags pile up faster than collection days come around.

Drop them off. Mississauga has two Peel Community Recycling Centres: Battleford CRC at 2255 Battleford Road and Fewster CRC at 1126 Fewster Drive. Peel charges a minimum of $7 per load of chargeable items, then 14.5 cents per kg above that, and takes debit, Visa or Mastercard only. The free yard waste drop-off of up to 150 kg applies only at the Caledon CRC on Quarry Drive.

Compost them. The City suggests composting leaves or spreading them around the base of your trees, where they protect the soil from extreme temperatures.

Leave some. Peel Region asks residents to leave some fallen leaves, stems and small brush in the yard over winter, because pollinators such as bees and butterflies hibernate in them. It suggests waiting until it is consistently 15°C or warmer in spring before cleaning up.

Mississauga vs. Brampton: how leaf pickup differs

Mississauga’s program reaches far more streets than Brampton’s. The City of Brampton’s Leaf Vacuum Program covers only specific streets in downtown Brampton and in Churchville, chosen because of flood risk, and it publishes a live status map instead of fixed weeks.

What changes for yard waste in 2027

From October 1, 2027, the City of Mississauga takes over garbage, organics and yard waste collection from Peel Region, with Emterra Environmental as its contractor. The City says yard waste will then be collected every two weeks for the whole season, mid-March to mid-December, instead of today’s mix of weekly and every-other-week pickup.

Nothing changes for this fall. The City says it will tell residents their new collection days before October 1, 2027. The vacuum leaf program is a separate City service and is not part of that change.

What this means for you

  • Look up your street on the route map this week. Yellow zone streets need leaves at the curb by the morning of October 26.
  • If you are on the map, rake twice: before each of your two collection weeks.
  • If you are not, buy Kraft paper bags and check your Peel yard waste day.
  • Keep leaves off the road and out of the storm drains either way.

FAQ

When is leaf pickup in Mississauga in 2026?

Mississauga leaf pickup 2026 dates depend on your zone. Yellow zone streets are scheduled for the weeks of October 26 and November 16, Blue for November 2 and November 23, and Green for November 9 and November 30. Weather can delay any of these.

How do I know if my street gets leaf pickup?

Search your street on the City of Mississauga’s leaf pickup route map, linked from its fall leaf pickup page. Streets on the program are coloured by zone. If yours is not coloured, use Peel Region’s yard waste collection instead.

Can I put leaves in plastic bags in Mississauga?

No. Peel Region collects leaves only in Kraft brown paper yard waste bags or in labelled reusable containers. Plastic bags of leaves are left at the curb.

What if I miss my leaf pickup week?

Each zone gets a second round about three weeks after the first. If you miss both, bag the leaves for your Peel yard waste day or take them to a Community Recycling Centre, where fees apply.

Do I have to rake leaves to the road?

No. The City asks you to rake them to the edge of the boulevard or into the ditch, not onto the road, and to keep curbside storm drains clear.

Who do I call about Mississauga leaf pickup?

Call 311, or 905-615-4311 from outside Mississauga, for the City’s vacuum program. For bagged leaves and yard waste days, use Peel Region’s collection calendar or its waste pages.

Can I put Halloween pumpkins out with leaves?

Yes. Peel Region lists Halloween pumpkins as acceptable yard waste, as long as the candle is removed. Put them in a Kraft bag or labelled bin on your yard waste day.
