Is a monthly pass worth it?
An adult monthly pass costs $148.50. At $3.55 a trip, that works out to about 42 PRESTO trips a month before the pass pays off. If you ride to work and back five days a week, you will usually pass that number.
PRESTO also has a loyalty rule. The City says riders who pay from their PRESTO balance and take more than 12 trips from Monday to Sunday ride free for the rest of that week. Transfers on other agencies and discounted One Fare trips do not count toward the 12.
How to pay: PRESTO, contactless or cash
PRESTO. A physical PRESTO card costs $4.00 at Brampton Transit terminals and the fee is not refundable. A PRESTO card in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet is free. Your card needs enough money for a full local fare, or the tap will not go through.
Contactless credit or debit. Tap a credit or debit card, phone or watch on the reader. You pay $4.75, and a 2-hour transfer is included. Brampton Transit adds no fee, but your bank may charge its own transaction fees.
Cash. Bring exact change. Ask the operator for a paper transfer when you pay.
PRESTO is the cheapest of the three for most riders, and it is the only way to get the passes and discounts below.
Transfers and connecting to GO
Brampton Transit transfers last 2 hours from the time they are issued. If you paid with PRESTO or a contactless card, tap the same card, phone or watch on your next bus and the transfer is applied for you. Cash riders get a paper transfer.
Trips between a Brampton bus and five GO train stations cost $0 under the One Fare rules: Mount Pleasant, Downtown Brampton, Bramalea, Malton and Lisgar. You need a valid GO ticket, a PRESTO card or the same contactless card you started with. The Transfers and Connecting Transit page lists which other agencies’ transfers Brampton accepts, including MiWay and YRT/Viva. Riding GO on the weekend of October 31? Free rides for Brampton seniors
Brampton residents 65 and older ride free. You need two things: a Brampton Transit Senior ID card and a PRESTO card loaded with the free annual pass. Show the ID to the operator and tap PRESTO each time you board.
Apply online or in person at Bramalea Terminal (160 Central Park Drive), the Clark Facility (185 Clark Boulevard) or the Sandalwood Facility (130 Sandalwood Parkway West). Bring proof of a Brampton address dated in the last 6 months and government-issued photo ID. An Ontario driver’s licence covers both. Details are on the City’s Senior Fare page. The free pass works only on Brampton Transit.
Affordable Transit Program
Peel Region runs the Affordable Transit Program with Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga. Approved adults in Brampton can choose 50% off either a monthly pass or single fares for 12 months, and youth 13 to 19 can get 50% off single fares. The single-fare option and the Caledon expansion started April 1, 2026.
You apply through Peel Region and need a registered PRESTO card plus your Notice of Assessment. The City says approval takes up to 20 business days, and you have to reapply each year. The Affordable Transit Program page has the eligibility rules. Peel’s phone line for applicants without internet is 905-793-9200.
Riders with vision loss
Riders with a CNIB card ride free.
