Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 12, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what personal information Brampton Brief (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects when you visit bramptonbrief.com or subscribe to our newsletter, how we use it, and the choices you have. We aim to follow Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL).

Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Newsletter: your email address when you subscribe. We also record the date and time you subscribed and confirmed, and the IP address used, so we have a record of your consent.
  • Messages: your name, email address and anything you include when you email us.

Information collected automatically

  • Usage data: pages you view, how you arrived at the site, approximate location (city or region), device type, browser and operating system. This is collected through cookies and similar technologies (see “Cookies” below and our Cookie Policy).
  • Server logs: like most websites, our hosting provider records technical data such as IP addresses and request times to keep the site running and secure.

We do not ask for sensitive information, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

How we use your information

  • To publish and run the website
  • To send the newsletter you asked for, and to confirm your subscription
  • To understand which articles readers find useful, so we can improve our coverage
  • To reply to your messages, tips and correction requests
  • To show advertising and measure how it performs
  • To protect the site against spam, abuse and security threats
  • To meet legal obligations

Analytics

We use Google Analytics, connected through Google Site Kit, to understand how readers use the site. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect information such as pages visited and time on site. We use these reports in aggregate and do not use them to identify you. You can learn how Google uses this data at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services, and you can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Advertising

We use, or may use, Google AdSense to show ads on bramptonbrief.com. Advertising helps pay for our local coverage.

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
  • You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info, and Canadian users can use YourAdChoices.ca.
  • If other ad networks serve ads on this site in the future, we will list them here with links to their opt-out pages.

Where the law requires it, for example for visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, we will ask for your consent through a consent message before personalized ads are shown.

Advertisers do not influence our news coverage. See our Editorial Policy.

Newsletter

When you subscribe, you will receive an email asking you to confirm. We only add you to the list after you confirm. Your email address and subscription record are stored in our website’s database on our hosting provider’s servers. We send the newsletter from our own website and do not sell or rent our list.

Our newsletter may record whether an email was opened and which links were clicked, so we can see which stories are most useful. Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link, and you can unsubscribe at any time. You can also email us and we will remove you.

Cookies

Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. We and our partners use them for analytics and advertising, and to remember settings. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though some features may not work as expected. Details are in our Cookie Policy.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only:

  • with service providers that help us run the site, such as our web host (Hostinger), Google (analytics and advertising) and our backup and security tools, who may only use it to provide their services to us;
  • when required by law, or to protect our rights, our readers or the public.

Some of these providers store or process data outside Canada, including in the United States. When that happens, your information may be subject to the laws of those countries.

How long we keep information

  • Newsletter subscribers: until you unsubscribe, after which we keep only what we need to honour your unsubscribe request.
  • Emails you send us: as long as needed to respond and keep a record of corrections and tips.
  • Analytics data: according to the retention settings in Google Analytics.

How we protect information

We use reasonable safeguards, including HTTPS encryption, access controls on our website administration and site backups. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your rights and choices

You can ask us to:

  • tell you what personal information we hold about you;
  • correct information that is wrong;
  • delete your information or withdraw your consent, for example by unsubscribing from the newsletter.

To make a request, email hello@bramptonbrief.com. We will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Visitors in the European Union or the United Kingdom may have additional rights under the GDPR, including the right to object to processing and to lodge a complaint with their local data protection authority.
