The basic rules for parking on Brampton streets
Three rules apply on City streets unless you hold a parking consideration. You cannot park between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. You cannot park for longer than 3 hours. On a residential street you cannot park a vehicle taller than 2.6 metres or longer than 6.7 metres, counting any attachments or trailers.

What is a parking consideration?
A parking consideration lets you park on a City street for more than 3 hours, between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m., or both. The City accepts requests for as long as 14 days each calendar year, per licence plate. It also lets a large vehicle designed for recreational use, such as a motor home, park on the street.
A consideration waives only three offences: parking from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m., parking for more than three hours, and parking a large motor vehicle that is designed for recreational use. Any other violation still gets a ticket. Our step-by-step guide to requesting a Brampton parking consideration covers winter rules, trailers and what to do if you are ticketed anyway.
What it does not cover
- Unlicensed vehicles and vehicles that are inoperative or immobile, such as one with a flat tire.
- Detached trailers on the street. These are not eligible and get ticketed.
- Large vehicles that are not designed for recreational use.
- Obstructing snow clearing or road maintenance. The City says your vehicle can be tagged or towed even with a consideration.
How to request a parking consideration
- Open the City’s online parking consideration form, linked from its Permission to Park page.
- Read and agree to the three statements about what the consideration covers.
- Complete every field. The City says all fields are required.
- Enter your licence plate and province or state exactly. The form warns that tickets will not be cancelled if there is an error.
- Keep your parking consideration number. If you get a ticket for one of the three covered offences, the City says it can only be cancelled with a valid number.
If you tow a recreational trailer, both the vehicle’s plate and the trailer’s plate need a consideration. The City’s page does not mention a fee, so check the form when you apply. In winter, the City says it does not issue considerations during winter weather events. Our Brampton snow clearing guide covers the other winter rules on City streets.

| Park interfering with snow removal or winter maintenance | $250 | $500 | $750 |
The City lists many more offences, and the amounts can change. Check its full fines table and its explanation of the January 2026 increase before you rely on a figure. Tickets from speed cameras are a separate system; see our guide to Brampton speed camera tickets.
What this means for you
If a visitor or a second vehicle will stay on your street past 3 hours or overnight, request a consideration before they park, and keep the number. With winter coming, do not count on a consideration to protect a car left in the way of snow clearing: that offence carries the highest fine in the table above. If you’d rather leave the car at home, our Brampton Transit guide covers fares, passes and PRESTO.
